Black Cloud Stable's Whereshetoldmetogo closed out Maryland Pride Day with a bang when he took home his third consecutive win in the Star De Naskra Stakes. The race was the final of four $75,000 stakes for Maryland bred/sired Thoroughbreds on the Aug. 18 card at Laurel Park.
The 3-year-old son El Padrino was four deep in the field of six as the field entered the stretch of the six-furlong affair. Coming under the right-handed stick from jockey Jeremy Rose, Whereshetoldmetogo took the lead at the sixteenths pole and edged away. The colt crossed the wire two lengths ahead in a final time of 1:09.11.
Trained by Anthony Pecoraro, Saturday's victory in the Star De Naskra was the fourth overall stakes win for Whereshetoldmetogo, who holds a 6-2-0 record in 14 starts.
Six races earlier on the card, 7-year-old gelding Sonny Inspired took the Ben's Cat Stakes over six furlongs on turf. Settling three-win off a strongly contested early pace set by frontrunner Spartianos, Sonny Inspired picked up speed entering the lane. As they entered deep stretch, jockey Daniel Centeno guided his Sonny Inspired between the dueling leaders and dug in to win by three quarters of a length.
The Ben's Cat was the 52nd start for the son of Artie Schiller. The victory was a nostalgic one for the Phil Schoenthal-trained Sonny Inspired, who had not visited the winner's circle at Laurel Park since winning the Ben's Cat back in 2016.
The Miss Disco Stakes for 3-year-old fillies went to Majestic Reason. The Graham Motion trainee showed early speed from the break but fell back to fourth as the field approached the turn. Eased out three wide in mid stretch, the filly drifted back to the rail and came under left hand urging.
With seventy yards to go and the finish line in sight, Majestic Reason surged clear to win by a margin of 1 1/4 lengths over 2-1 favorite, Zorally.
The Miss Disco win was the first stakes test for Majestic Reason, who broke her maiden at first asking June 8 at Laurel Park. She ran second next out in a July 14 allowance before stepping up to black-type.
Bred by Sycamore Thoroughbreds and Ellen Charles out of the Not For Love mare Love's Reason, Majestic Reason is a half sister to the stakes placed runners Jump for Love and Good Reasoning.
Richard Vermillion's Rocky Policywent gate-to-wire to win the Jameela Stakes for older fillies and mares. The 6-year-old nabbed the lead early and refused to yield. Final time for the six-furlong turf test was 1:08.78.
The Jameela was the first stakes win for the daughter of Rock Slide, who has run 16 of her 27 career starts at Laurel Park.
