Firsthand Justice breaks his maiden Aug. 14 at JACK Thistledown

Ohio freshman sire Tidal Volume  jumped straight to the top of the state's leading first-crop sire standings when his gelded son Firsthand Justice became his first winner Aug. 14 at JACK Thistledown Racino.

Bred by Greg Justice and Justice Farm, the gelding broke his maiden in his third start for owner Sheltowee Farm and trainer Michael Evans II.

Firsthand Justice is out of the winning Tactical Advantage mare Fly Gold Air, whom Justice Farm bought for $1,000 in foal to Aragorn at the 2010 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale from the Three Chimneys Sales consignment. At the time Justice bought the mare, she had only one placed runner out of two to race. Within the next two years, she would have three winners from four to race.

Michael Evans, the father of Firsthand Justice's trainer and owner of Sheltowee, bought the Ohio-bred first winner as an intact colt for $5,200 at the Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders' Mixed Sale. In just over three weeks since finishing second in his debut July 21, Firsthand Justice has become a winner and bankrolled $23,775.

Tidal Volume is a stakes-winning son of Tapit  bred by Barry and Carol Conrad and raced by Robin Murphy. He compiled an 8-3-2 record out of 23 starts and earned $231,476. He entered stud and continues to stand at Poplar Creek Horse Center, where his 2018 fee was $3,000.
