Jockey Anthony Stephen was taken to University of Kentucky Medical Center Oct. 10 after being unseated from his mount following the third race at Keeneland.
According to Keeneland medical director Dr. Barry Schumer, Stephen was awake, alert, and moving his extremities before he was transported to the hospital for further evaluation and testing.
Stephen's mount, 3-year-old first-time starter Arty's Cigar, was not injured, according to Keeneland officials. The Nicholas Sideris trainee finished seventh at odds of 15-1 before dropping the rider while galloping out in the 6 1/2-furlong event for $15,000 maiden claimers.
Arty's Cigar, a homebred gelding by Western Pride, runs for Sideris' Laramie Racing Stable.
