The inaugural Gulfstream Park West meet in Florida had all-sources handle of $3,475,300 Saturday, Oct. 11, the highest in the four days since the meet opened.
Under a lease agreement, Gulfstream Park is holding the 44-day meet at the South Florida neighbor track, renaming the former Calder Race Course.
Gulfstream Park West's Oct. 11 handle was fourth highest among U.S. Thoroughbred tracks. It trailed Belmont Park, Santa Anita Park, and Keeneland.
The Oct. 11 handle numbers indicate that Gulfstream Park West has moved past a problem with access codes on automated betting terminals, which held down handle on the first two days, Wednesday and Thursday Oct. 8-9. All-sources handle was $1,434,678 Oct.8, and has since been rising. For the four days it has averaged $2.5 million, with 10 races per day. Gulfstream Park West has averaged 10.2 starters over the four days.
Gulfstream had averages of 9.2 starters per race and all-sources handle of $3.5 million for its summer meet from July 1 to Oct.4.
Gulfstream Park West will have 10 races Oct. 12, with 100 entrants including also eligibles.
