Drillit wins the Tah Dah Stakes at Belterra Park

Get Away Farm's grade 1-winning freshman sire Drill  had his first black-type winner when Drillit took the Tah Dah Stakes at Belterra Park Aug. 26.

The 2-year-old filly dueled for the early lead in the field of nine and held sway in the stretch to win the six-furlong contest by one length in a final time of 1:12.69.

Trained by Robert Gorham for Mast Thoroughbreds, the Ohio-bred filly now has two wins from four starts. Drillit broke her maiden in her June 23 debut by 8 1/4 lengths at Thistledown. She then placed second in the Hoover Stakes at Belterra and third back at Thistledown in the July 21 Miss Ohio Stakes.

Drill, a son of Lawyer Ron who was trained by Bob Baffert for Karl Watson, Mike Pegram, and Paul Weitman, won the Del Mar Futurity (G1) in his third start. He followed that effort with a second in the Norfolk Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita Park. His other major victories came in the San Vicente Stakes (G2) and the Lazaro Barrera Memorial Stakes (G3) as a 3-year-old. He was retired after his 5-year-old season with a record of 4-2-3 from 28 starts.

The stallion has stood at Get Away Farm in Florida for $4,500 since his retirement from racing.
