Pin Oak Stable's Synchrony is slated to carry the high weight of 123 pounds into the $100,000 Red Bank Stakes (G3T), going one mile against a field of seven other older turf runners Sept. 1 at Monmouth Park.
The 5-year-old son of Tapit has finished on the board in each of his five starts this year, winning the 1 1/8-mile Fair Grounds Handicap (G3T) in his season debut and then taking the Muniz Memorial Handicap (G2T) at the same distance while running a career-best Equibase Speed Figure of 112 at Fair Grounds. Stepping up in class, the Michael Stidham trainee finished third in Churchill Downs' Old Forester Turf Classic Stakes (G1T) in May at the 1 1/8-mile distance.
Returning in July, Synchrony again finished third in the Arlington Handicap (G3T) this time just a length behind grade 1 winner Divisidero who took the 1 3/16-mile contest. However, Synchrony comes into the Red Bank off a 2 1/4-length score in the July 29 Oceanport Stakes (G3T) going 1 1/16 miles over the Monmouth turf.
In the Oceanport Synchrony defeated last year's Red Bank's winner Irish Strait as well as Force the Pass, who will carry the second highest weight of 120 pounds Saturday.
Joe Bravo will have the ride aboard Synchrony, who gives three to seven pounds to the rest of the field.
Trained by Graham Motion, Irish Strait has been racing primarily at Monmouth and he started his year with a second in the May 5 Cliff Hanger Stakes, the same course and distance as the Red Bank. The son of English Channel and half brother to graded stakes winner Irish War Cry then scored a half-length win in the June 17 Dan Horn Handicap at 1 1/16 miles before his third-place run in the Oceanport.
Force the Pass, who did not race in 2017, has not shown the same form he did winning the 2015 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes (G1T) since. But the 6-year-old son of Speightstown has been breezing well on both turf and dirt. After kicking off 2018 with the win in the Cliff Hanger, Force the Pass finished off the board in both the Poker Stakes (G3T) at Belmont Park and the Oceanport.
Others that make up the field include last year's English Channel Stakes winner Dalarna, 2017 Nearctic Stakes (G2T) winner Field of Courage, three-time stakes winner Special Envoy, 2016 Mathis Brothers Mile (G2T) winner Conquest Enforcer, and 2016 Parx Derby winner Abiding Star.
The $100,000 Violet Stakes, for fillies and mares 3 and older, will run prior to the Red Bank Saturday.
Featured in the 1 1/8-mile turf race is multiple graded stakes winner Elysea's World. The Chad Brown trainee comes into the stakes off a score in the WinStar Matchmaker Stakes (G3T) and the 5-year-old mare also won the Suwannee River Stakes (G3T) to start the year. She has been made the 123-pound highweight in the field of eight.
