Description:
Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (gr. I) winner Lady of Fifty has been retired and will not start in the Sept. 28 Zenyatta Stakes (gr. I) at Santa Anita Park, according to trainer and co-owner Jerry Hollendorfer. Hollendorfer and co-owner George Todaro will consign the 4-year-old After Market   filly to Keeneland's November breeding sale.

The decision also opts the filly out of the paid entry for the Nov. 1 Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I), which she earned with her Clement Hirsch win.

"I just don't think it's fair to race her against (company like) Royal Delta and some others," said the trainer. "We're just trying to do the right thing by her."

Bred in Kentucky by Cloverleaf Farms, Hollendorfer acquired the filly out of K. D.'s Shady Lady, by Maria's Mon, for $40,000 at the Keeneland September sale in 2010.

"It's always a pleasure to buy a horse from the yearling sale and take them to the very top of their game," Hollendorfer said. "We were fortunate to be able to do that with her and we're grateful to have had her."

Lady of Fifty captured six stakes racing for Hollendorfer and Todaro, including the 2011 Golden Gate Debutante Stakes at Golden Gate Fields, the 2012 renewal of Betfair Hollywood Park's Bayakoa Handicap (gr. II), and culminating with her victory last time out in the Aug. 3 Clement Hirsch.

The grade I winner retires with a record of 7-1-5 from her 16 starts and earnings of $593,000.

Until the sale, "(Lady of Fifty) is training every day," Hollendorfer confirmed. The filly will remain stabled at Santa Anita with Hollendorfer. "She's at the track and I'm jogging her every day so she'll look nice for the sale."
