From California to Florida to Canada and back, Claiborne Farm and Adele B. Dilschenider's Lull has seen a lot of the world since September 2017. Back in the Bluegrass state for the first time this season, the multiple grade 3 winner will return to Kentucky Downs to defend her title in the $450,000 Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint Stakes (G3T) Sept. 8 over 6 1/2 furlongs.
The 4-year-old daughter of War Front started the year with a win in the March 31 Honey Fox Stakes (G3T) over a mile at Gulfstream Park but was just shy of the winner's circle in her next two outings, finishing third in both the Longines Just a Game Stakes (G1T) and Royal North Stakes (G2T).
Awarded grade 3 status for 2018, this year's reprisal of the Ladies Sprint has drawn a field of 10 older fillies and mares. The 2-1 morning- line favorite for Saturday's race, Lull will break from post 6 with jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. aboard.
Representing the West Virginia-breds will be Silverton Hill's homebred Ruby Notion. Trained by Darrin Miller, the 5-year-old Great Notion mare enters off a win last out in the Caress Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.
Ruby Notion has not raced in graded company since her freshman season when she finished 13th in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T) at Keeneland. Ruby Notion, running as the co-highweight with Lull, will have Florent Geroux riding.
Wesley Ward trainee Con Te Partiro will make her first trip over the Kentucky Downs turf in the Ladies Sprint. The daughter of the late Scat Daddy has had a somewhat embattled season this year, turning in a pair of third-place finishes followed by two fourth-place runs in the Modesty Handicap (G3T) and an optional-claiming allowance race.
Speedway Stables' Noted and Quoted brings back class to Saturday's field. A winner of the Chandelier Stakes (G1) at 2, the Florida-bred daughter of The Factor finished sixth in the Kentucky Downs Preview Ladies Turf Stakes Aug. 5, her only start this year. She will partner with jockey Robby Albarado.
