Tricky Escape will try for a third straight stakes win when she starts in the Ramsey Farm Stakes Sept. 13 at Kentucky Downs

Kentucky Downs closes out its short 2018 meeting this week with racing Sept. 12 and 13 with a pair of stakes scheduled for each day.

The Wednesday Sept. 12 card is a makeup date from Sept. 9, which was postponed after heavy rain Sunday at the turf-only track in Franklin, Ky. Racing Sept. 13 is the originally scheduled card.

On Wednesday 3-year-olds will be in the spotlight in the $300,000 Fifth Third Insurance Dueling Grounds Oaks for fillies and the $400,000 Exacta Systems Dueling Grounds Derby.

In the Oaks, Debby Oxley's Heavenly Love, a grade 1 winner on dirt, will try to secure her first graded stakes win on turf. Trained by Mark Casse, Heavenly Love won last year's Alcibiades Stakes (G1) on the dirt at Keeneland. In June the daughter of Malibu Moon  earned a graded stakes placing on turf when she rallied to finish third in the Regret Stakes (G3T) at Churchill Downs.

The morning-line favorite in the expected field of 12 going 1 5/16 miles is Augustin Stable's Pamina, who has finished first or second in her five career starts—all on turf. The daughter of Street Cry enters off a runner-up finish in the Pucker Up Stakes (G3T) Aug. 11 at Arlington International Racecourse, which marked her stakes debut.

In the Derby at 1 5/16 miles, Lothenbach Stables' Captivating Moon will try for what has proven to be an elusive initial graded stakes win for the son of Malibu Moon. Trained by Chris Block, Captivating Moon has placed in three previous graded stakes.

"He's just been kind of a hard-luck horse," Block told track publicity. "He's run against some good horses that have just been a little bit better than him at times. He's also run into some circumstances that I think if there had been more solid pace up front, maybe softening it up, he might have been able to run them down. But he's pretty hardy, pretty consistent, and I expect him to show up Wednesday."

Calumet Farm's Bandua has been entered off a third-place finish in the Secretariat Stakes (G1T). The field also includes grade 3-placed Channel Cat and Reride, who is group 2-placed on dirt.

The card also features four $100,000 races run under starter-allowance conditions that will offer automatic spots in corresponding Claiming Crown races in December at Gulfstream Park.

On Thursday, 3-year-old sprinters will contest the $300,000 Franklin-Simpson Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf. Ken and Sarah Ramsey's Battle Station, a stakes winner on dirt, enters off a clear victory in an allowance race sprinting on the turf July 30 at Saratoga Race Course.

The Ramseys also have a top contender in the $400,000 Ramsey Farm Stakes for fillies and mares in Daring Duchess, a daughter of Arch who in her previous start drew off to a 3 1/4-length victory in the Flaming Page Stakes Aug. 11 on the Woodbine turf.

In the 1 5/16-mile Ramsey Farm, Daring Duchess will have to contend with Jon Marshall's Tricky Escape, who enters off a win in the Aug. 12 Waya Stakes, which was moved from the turf to the main track at Saratoga. Before that effort the daughter of Hat Trick won the Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes (G3T) on the Delaware Park turf.
