Canada's Horse of the Year Pink Lloyd will try for a third straight stakes win when he faces an expected nine rivals in the $125,000 Bold Venture Stakes (G3) Sept. 15 at Woodbine.
A winner of five of six races this season, all stakes on the Woodbine synthetic surface, Entourage Stable's Pink Lloyd enters Saturday's 6 1/2-furlong test for 3-year-olds and older off a neck victory in the OLG Kenora Stakes presented by HBPA of Ontario Aug. 29.
Trained by Robert Tiller, Pink Lloyd will spot rivals from three to 13 pounds Saturday. The son of Old Forester will be trying for his 17th victory in what will be his 20th career start. That production helped Pink Lloyd also earn 2017 Sovereign Awards as Canada's top older horse and top male sprinter.
Awaiting Canada's Horse of the Year Saturday will be Kingsport, who defeated Pink Lloyd at the 6 1/2-furlong distance in the Shepperton Stakes July 8. After that race, Goldmart Farms and Royal Laser Racing's Kingsport scored a front-running, clear victory in the 1 1/16-mile OLG Elgin Stakes presented by Ontario Racing Thoroughbred Improvement Program.
According to Equibase, Kingsport's trainer Sid Attard enjoys a 31% win rate with horses he starts in a sprint distance after a route (based on the past 35 races where this has occurred).
