Dual grade 1 winner New Money Honey goes into the 1 1/8-mile Canadian Stakes Presented by the Japan Racing Association (G2T) on the Sept. 15 Ricoh Woodbine Mile (G1T) undercard with the understanding that her connections are following her lead.

The Medaglia d'Oro  filly, owned by e Five Racing Thoroughbreds and trained by Chad Brown, makes her Woodbine debut in the $250,000 turf race off a disappointing sixth-place finish in the July 21 Diana Stakes (G1T) at Saratoga Race Course and gets a bit of class relief in the field of eight fillies and mares.

"I think she really owes me nothing at this point," Bob Edwards of e Five Racing said. "She (won) a couple of grade 1s and a couple of grade 3s. We are just going to keep her in training, and as long as Chad wants to run her, we will continue to run her. If he says she needs to settle back down and get ready to be a broodmare, then that's the plan. I don't plan on racing her after this year."

The 2016 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T) winner and Eclipse Award finalist won her second start of 2017 by two lengths in the Wonder Again Stakes (G3T) in June. She followed the effort with a win over future 2018 Diana victor Sistercharlie in the Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes (G1T), but she finished off the board in three consecutive grade 1 starts to end the year.

New Money Honey made a successful season debut in a Belmont Park optional-claiming allowance race June 21 just before the Diana.

"We had a long layoff after the American Oaks (G1T) for her the end of last year," Edwards explained. "She had a nice, long layoff, well-deserved rest—and Chad put her in an allowance race at Belmont and she did real well. She came off the pace and just ended up getting it by a nose. Javier (Castellano) timed it perfectly.

"It was a big ask to go from there to the Diana, but Chad felt she deserved it. It was a tough crowd. She had beaten a lot of those horses before, but it was a tough crowd."

The 4-year-old filly breezed a half-mile Sept. 8 at Saratoga in :48.83 to be the third-fastest of 63 at the distance that day in preparation for the Canadian Stakes.

Brown has also entered Beaugay Stakes (G3T) and Dance Smartly Stakes (G2T) runner-up Inflexibility. The Scat Daddy filly has yet to break through at the graded level and placed fifth in her most recent effort—the Beverly D. Stakes (G1T).

Going up against the co-highweighted New Money Honey is Niigon's Eclipse, who will also carry 121 pounds Saturday. The Ontario-bred has only finished off the board three times in her 18 starts and jumped to graded stakes winner status after taking the one-mile Nassau Stakes (G2T) at Woodbine in May.

The 5-year-old daughter of Niigon has finished runner-up in two Woodbine turf stakes since then for trainer Rachel Halden and Chiefswood Stable.

Starship Jubilee is among the top contenders, but the daughter of Indy Wind has not shown the same form as when she won five races in a row and back-to-back graded stakes in 2017.

Daring Duchess and Mythical Mission each come into the race off stakes victories. Bletchley and Hallie Belle round out the field.
