The juvenile male division took another hit this week as trainer Bob Baffert confirmed that grade 1-place Roadster would be sidelined for about 45 days, ruling him out of the Breeders' Cup.

Roadster most recently finished third as the favorite in the Sept. 3 Del Mar Futurity (G1), a race won by his stablemate Game Winner. The son of Quality Road  displaced his palate, Baffert said, and will be freshened for a sophomore campaign.

"He needed a little throat procedure so we're going to give him like 45 days off," Baffert said Sept. 20. "He wasn't 100% there and the main thing is we want him for the classics and stuff. He's bred to go really far so I think he'll come back great and be fresh."

Earlier this week saw owner Larry Best announce that he was pulling his undefeated colt Instagrand out of training for the remainder of the year to focus on a 3-year-old campaign.

Owned by Speedway Stable, Roadster broke his maiden in stylish fashion first time out, winning  a six-furlong test at Del Mar July 29 by 4 1/4 lengths. The gray colt was bred by Stone Farm and is out of the Silver Ghost mare Ghost Dancing.
