Firenze Fire romps in the Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park

Mr. Amore Stable's homebred Firenze Fire heads a field of 10 3-year-olds for the $300,000 Gallant Bob Stakes (G3) Sept. 22 at Parx Racing.

The son of Poseidon's Warrior  turns back to six furlongs after a third-place finish going seven in the Aug. 25 H. Allen Jerkens Stakes Presented by Runhappy (G1) at Saratoga Race Course. Before that run at the Spa, he won the one-mile Dwyer Stakes (G3) by nine lengths July 7 at Belmont Park, his first start off an 11th-place finish in the May 5 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) for trainer Jason Servis.

Firenze Fire should display his speed from the outside post under Irad Ortiz Jr. and is the morning-line favorite at 2-1.

West Point Thoroughbreds' Seven Trumpets looks to break through his recent streak of runner-up finishes for trainer Dale Romans after he fell short behind stablemate Promises Fulfilled in the H. Allen Jerkens. His previous effort left him as the distant runner-up behind Firenze Fire in the Dwyer.

Trainer Chad Brown will send a pair led by the Into Mischief  colt Engage, the 2017 Futurity Stakes (G3) winner who is in search of his first graded stakes victory this year off a fourth in the H. Allen Jerkens for Woodford Racing. Also entered for Brown is Klaravich Stables' Earned Success, who has displayed a strong late turn of foot through four starts and will face graded stakes competition for the first time after he won two consecutive allowance events at Monmouth Park.

Maryland-bred Still Having Fun ships in from Laurel Park with the hopes of adding a second graded stakes win to his credit for Gary Barber, Wachtel Stable, and Terp Racing. The Old Fashioned colt won the June 9 Woody Stephens Stakes Presented by Mohegan Sun (G2) by 1 1/4 lengths, but he needs to rebound from a fifth in the H. Allen Jerkens for trainer Timothy Keefe.

War Giant will look to remain undefeated this year. He broke his maiden May 3 at Gulfstream Park before adding an optional-claiming allowance victory and the June 30 Carry Back Stakes for trainer Oscar Gonzalez. The Data Link  colt, now trained by Jorge Navarro, races for owner Wilfredo Agusti Jr.
