McKinzie Too Good in Pennsylvania Derby

Description:

McKinzie provided a suitable reminder in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby (G1) Sept. 22 as to why he began the year atop trainer Bob Baffert's list of 3-year-old contenders.

In his first start since he was knocked off the road to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) in late March due to a hind leg injury, the son of Street Sense  vied with longshot pacesetter Trigger Warning through the early fractions, then took command for good at the head of the lane to earn the victory in the 1 1/8-mile test for sophomores at Parx Racing.

McKinzie had not raced since he crossed the wire first in the March 10 San Felipe Stakes (G2), before he was disqualified to second behind Bolt d'Oro for interference in the stretch.

Axelrod came up for second in the Pennsylvania Derby, with Trigger Warning third and Hofburg fourth. The final time for the distance was 1:52.
