Jockeys' Guild, RTCA Set Up Saez Family Fund

The Jockeys' Guild has partnered with the Race Track Chaplaincy of America (RTCA) to establish an account for funds for the family of apprentice jockey Juan Saez.
 
Saez, 17, was fatally injured October 14 in an on-track accident at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino in Shelbyville, Indiana. Saez is survived by parents Carlos Saez and Laurentina Ramos Saez as well as his siblings Norisela, Jakeline, Luis (his wife, Andrea), Detzy, Sebastian, and his nieces and nephew.  
 
Contributions can be made to aid Saez's family by sending a check made out to Race Track Chaplaincy of of America, 2365 Harrodsburg Road, Suite A-120, Lexington, Kentucky 40504, with the notation "Juan Saez" on the memo line.
 
Additionally, jockeys across the nation will honor the late jockey during Breeders' Cup weekend, Oct. 31-Nov. 1. The jockeys will ride with a patch with Saez's initials on their pants/boots as well as a with a black band to recognize him and the other jockeys who have lost the lives during a race or as a result of race-related injuries. All jockeys will be asked to donate at least one losing mount fee to the fund.
