Tiz Breathtaking, winner of the 5 1/2-furlong Shady Well Stakes in her third career start at Woodbine on August 4, will be stretching out to 1 1/16 miles while looking to double up in the Mazarine Stakes (G3) Oct. 6 at Woodbine.

The Mazarine, which offers a purse of $125,000, attracted a field of seven two-year-old fillies on the all-weather track. On Sunday, Oct. 7, the $225,000 Cup and Saucer Stakes will feature juveniles foaled in Canada on the turf.

Tiz Breathtaking, owned and bred by Bill Graham, was a winner at first asking when travelling 4 1/2 furlongs for trainer Mike Doyle. In her second appearance, which came in the 5 1/2 furlong My Dear, Tiz Breathtaking finished well to be third, beaten just a neck, and was moved up to second upon the disqualification of first-place finisher My Gal Betty.

Following the Shady Well, Doyle had considered the Sept. 16 Natalma, a grade 1 race over one mile of turf, but elected to await the Mazarine.

"We skipped the Natalma because she sort of didn't look like she was the same on the turf," said Doyle. "So we waited, and she's done great in between. She's had a nice break between races, and I would anticipate that she's going to run very well."

Doyle also is unfazed by the fact that Tiz Breathtaking will be trying two turns for the first time.

"I think the further, the better," said the trainer, who will give leading rider Eurico Rosa da Silva a leg up on Tiz Breathtaking.

In the Cup and Saucer on Sunday, Bold Script and Avie's Flatter, both exiting grade 1, one-mile turf stakes at Woodbine, will be in with eight fellow Canadian-bred 2-year-olds going 1 1/16 miles on the turf.

Bold Script comes into the Cup and Saucer off a solid third-place finish in the Sept. 16 Natalma and the top two there, La Pelosa and My Gal Betty, are aiming for the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) at Churchill Downs.

"She ran a big race, and she galloped out great," said Stu Simon, who conditions the homebred daughter of Speightstown  for Chiefswood Stable. "She's a real quality filly."

Bold Script was making her third start in the Natalma after being a game winner when travelling six furlongs and then finishing third in the Catch A Glimpse Stakes over about six furlongs of yielding turf.

"In her second race, she kind of got a raw deal--she was stuck in the one-hole," said Simon.

Gary Boulanger will ride Bold Script for the first time as she takes on males.

Avie's Flatter overcame an awkward start when winning his five-furlong debut and ended a troubled fourth when making just his second appearance in the Summer Stakes Sept. 16.

"He got very tired," said Josie Carrroll, who conditions the homebred Flatter  colt for Ivan Dalos.

"He got a lot out of the race. I was happy to get a good mile into him before the Cup and Saucer. He ran a real credible race. He's started figuring it out. I think he's a very nice horse."

Leading rider Eurico Rosa da Silva again will do the honors.
