Hard hitting fillies Yuvetsi and Anonymity head a field of five fillies and mares 3 and older in the $100,000 L.A. Woman Stakes (G3) Oct. 7 at Santa Anita Park.
Trained by Richard Mandella, Anonymity had a sparkling resume heading into the grade 3 Rancho Bernardo Stakes at Del Mar Aug. 12 and was thus hammered to 2-5 favoritism, but she was no match late for the John Sadler-conditioned Yuvetsi, who forced the early issue en route to an authoritative 2 1/2-length win at 9-1.
Hronis Racing's Yuvetsi, a 4-year-old Kentucky-bred filly by Bodemeister, seemed to relish the return to sprinting in the Rancho Bernardo, a race in which she drew the rail in a field of four. With Tyler Baze back in the saddle, Yuvetsi has two wins and a second from three tries at 6 1/2 furlongs and she's 5-2-1-2 at Santa Anita.
LNJ Foxwoods' 4-year-old Tapit filly Anonymity has given every indication she's top class. An impressive first-out maiden winner at age 3 in August 2017, she's been an odds-on favorite in four subsequent starts, winning two of those, including a second condition allowance by 8 1/4 lengths two starts back July 29. Although well beaten after dueling head and head early with Yuvetsi in the Rancho Bernardo, Anonymity has come back to train very well, evidenced by a bullet half-mile of 47-flat Sept. 23 at Santa Anita, best of 96 at the distance.
