Description:
Ruler of The World, winner of the 2013 Investec Epsom Derby (Eng-I), has been retired from racing and will stand in 2015 at Coolmore Stud in Ireland.

"Ruler of The World has a recurrence of the muscle injury in his hind quarters that he suffered earlier in the summer and although it's not critical, we have advised that he be retired to stud," said Ballydoyle veterinarian John Halley.

A 4-year-old by Galileo—Love Me True, by Kingmambo, Ruler of The World has a 4-1-1 career line from 11 starts and earnings of $1,648,640. He won the Derby on just his third career start, having earlier landed a Curragh maiden and then the Chester Vase (Eng-III) by six lengths. Dropped back to a mile and a quarter for his final start of the season in the QIPCO Champion Stakes (Eng-I), he was third, beaten by three-quarters of a length, by older opponents Farhh and Cirrus des Aigles

This season Ruler of The World, campaigning for the Coolmore partnership and Sheikh Joaan Al Thani's Al Shaqab Racing, made all the running and landed the Qatar Prix Foy (Fr-II) Sept. 14 at Longchamp.

"Ruler of The World is a lovely horse with a very good action," said trainer Aidan O'Brien of the half brother to European champion and sire Duke of Marmalade. "He did very well to win the Derby less than two months after making his debut and he showed himself to be equally effective over a mile and a quarter in last year's Champion Stakes."

A stud fee will be announced at a later date.
