Grade 2 winner Mia Mischief is on track to contest the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) and will train up to the World Championships, according to trainer Steve Asmussen.
The 3-year-old daughter of Into Mischief , who is raced by Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt, Heider Family Stables, and Madeket Stables, had been nominated to the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (G2) run Oct. 6 at Keeneland, but Asmussen decided to pass.
"She had a hard summer and squeezing this one in was not in her best interest," Asmussen said Oct. 9.
Mia Mischief is at Churchill Downs and expected to work next either Oct. 13 or Oct. 14, depending on the weather.
This year, Mia Mischief has won or finished second in five out of six starts. She started the year at Oaklawn Park where she was second in the listed Dixie Belle Stakes and won the listed Purple Martin Stakes. She captured her first graded victory May 4 in the Eight Belles Stakes presented by Kentucky Trailer (G2) at Churchill.
Her only off-the-board finish came July 8 at Belmont Park in the Victory Ride Stakes (G3), where she led the field through fractions of :22.25, :44.63, and 1:09.75 in a speed duel with Classy Act. She faded to fifth but was only two lengths behind the winner.
Mia Mischief powered back in her next start, the Aug. 4 Longines Test Stakes (G1), where she was beaten at the wire by Separationofpowers. She comes into the Breeders' Cup off a second in the Sept. 2 Prioress Stakes (G2) at Saratoga Race Course.
