Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith is slated to ride a recent arrival from Europe in the $150,000 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes (G3T) Oct. 19 at Keeneland.
Godolphin homebred Poetic Charm, trained by Charlie Appleby, has been entered in the oversubscribed field of 14 sophomore fillies in what would be her first effort on U.S. soil.
The 3-year-old Dubawi filly is a half sister to group 1 winner and 2006 European champion 2-year-old colt Teofilo as well as group 3 winner Bean Feasa. She has four wins from eight starts, including her most recent outing that provided her first stakes victory in the Sept. 5 Prix de la Cochère-Fonds European de l'Élévage at Longchamp.
One start prior, Poetic Charm raced in mid-pack of the Aug. 15 Prix de Lieurey (G3) going one mile at Deauville, where she was briefly caught behind a wall of runners before splitting horses to finish second.
Poetic Charm will be stretching out to 1 1/16 miles in the Valley View for the first time. The filly logged one timed work at Keeneland since arriving in the U.S., breezing three furlongs on the turf Oct. 12 in :40 2/5.
The turf contest also has attracted Jim and Susan Hill's two-time grade 3 winner Daddy Is a Legend, who will be ridden by regular rider Manuel Franco.
Coming off a third in the Aug. 18 Lake Placid Stakes (G3T) at Saratoga Race Course where she finished behind dual grade 1 winner Rushing Fall for the third time this year, Daddy is a Legend will be the likely favorite Friday.
The Scat Daddy filly trained by George Weaver won the Lake George Stakes (G3T) at the Valley View distance at Saratoga one start prior. She also won the 2017 Jimmy Durante Stakes (G3T) at Del Mar, and sports a maiden victory on the Keeneland turf at 1 1/8 miles.
Trainer Chad Brown has entered a pair in the race, with Reversethedecision, who was fourth Sept. 15 in the Sands Point Stakes (G2T) at Belmont Park, and Mighty Scarlett, who placed third in the Wonder Again Stakes (G3T) in June before finishing fifth in the July 7 Belmont Oaks Invitational (G1T). The Scat Daddy filly returned to the winner's circle in her next start Sept. 2, winning an optional-claiming allowance at Saratoga.
Another to watch Friday is the aptly named Goodthingstaketime who has not finished off the board since arriving from Ireland in late 2017. Trained by Jorge Abreu, the Canford Cliffs filly won a Del Mar maiden special weight race in her 2017 North American debut, finished second in the March 10 Florida Oaks (G3T), and has finished third in four starts since then.
Among those efforts was a third in the one-mile Appalachian Stakes Presented by Japan Racing Association (G2T) at Keeneland in April behind Rushing Fall.
