Medaglia d'Oro Remains Atop Darley's Roster at $200,000

Medaglia d'Oro  will continue to lead the roster of Darley's American stallions at a fee of $200,000 for the 2019 breeding season, the farm announced Oct. 15.

His progeny had a strong year in the auction ring, which included eight seven-figure yearlings. Top sellers by the 19-year-old son of El Prado were among three of the four highest prices at the Fasig-Tipton's Saratoga Sale and an additional five at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Only Northern Dancer and Storm Cat have ever sired more in a single year, according to Darley. He has sired six graded/group winners so far this year, led by multiple grade 1-placed, multiple graded stakes winner Wonder Gadot. 

"How can you not be impressed with Medaglia d'Oro? Whether it's on the track or in the sales ring, he's simply delivering on all fronts," said Darren Fox, sales manager at Darley in America.

Street Sense , Frosted , and Bernardini  will each stand at a fee of $50,000. Street Sense's son McKinzie recently won the Pennsylvania Derby (G1) and now heads to either the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) or Clark Handicap (G1). Frosted has had two fully booked seasons at stud and his first foals will sell at the forthcoming Fasig-Tipton November and Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, while Bernardini continues to deliver as one of the most consistent sources of graded dirt winners in the country.

Nyquist 's fee will remain at $40,000 having had excellent full books over the past two seasons. The son of Uncle Mo  was the leading first-year covering sire of 2017 by sales average with Frosted a close second. And like Frosted, his first foals will be selling at the mixed sales in Kentucky. Nyquist became the first champion 2-year-old to win the Kentucky Derby (G1) undefeated since the Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew and was only the second ever Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) winner to capture the Derby.

"As far as our young stallions go, we are extremely impressed with the first foals by Frosted and Nyquist," Fox said. "From what we've seen, the quality runs very deep, and we are eagerly awaiting their weanlings going through the sales ring in a couple of weeks."

Medaglia d'Oro's grade 1-winning son Astern will again shuttle from Australia, and is another who was very popular with American breeders during his first season at stud last year. He will remain at $15,000 in 2019.

Completing the roster at Jonabell are Hard Spun  ($40,000), Street Boss  ($20,000), Animal Kingdom  ($15,000), and Midshipman  ($8,500).

Bernardini's multiple grade 1-winning son Alpha  will stand at Sequel Stallions in New York for a fee of $5,000.
