Top 10 second-crop sire Declaration of War will stand at JBBA's Shizunai Stallion Station in Japan for the 2019 breeding season, according to Ashford Stud and the Japan Race Horse Association.
The 9-year-old son of War Front is the second-leading sire of his class by number of 2018 black-type winners, with six. His top runner for the year is Emirates Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French Two Thousand Guineas, G1) winner Olmedo. His other graded stakes winners include Speed Franco, winner of the Dania Beach Stakes (G3T); Actress, who won her second group stakes in the TRM Ballyogan Stakes (G3) in Ireland; and Opry, who won the With Anticipation Stakes (G3T) at Saratoga Race Course.
All of Declaration of War's black-type winners so far have won on the turf.
Declaration of War took the 2013 Juddmonte International Stakes (G1) and Queen Anne Stakes (G1), finished second in the Coral Eclipse Stakes (G1), and was third in the QIPCO Sussex Stakes (G1). In his last start, he placed third in that year's Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) at Santa Anita Park. He retired with a 7-1-2 record out of 13 starts and earnings of $1,847,489.
The stallion entered stud at Coolmore Stud in Ireland and shuttled to Coolmore Australia in 2014. He was relocated to Ashford Stud in 2015 and stood for $25,000 this year. He is expected to ship to Japan in late November and be at Shizunai after quarantine in late December, according to the JRHA. A 2019 stud fee in Japan has not been announced.
Declaration of War is the second graded/group winner produced by Tempo West, a winning daughter of Rahy and also the dam of multiple grade 1-placed, grade 3 winner War Correspondent (also by War Front). The mare also produced multiple group-placed stakes winner Vertiformer (Dynaformer).
