Next Shares works five furlongs Oct. 21at Keeneland

Michael and Jules Iavarone, Jerry McClanahan, Christopher Dunn, William Marasa, Ritchie Robershaw, and Mark Taylor's Next Shares worked five furlongs over a turf course rated good Oct. 21 in 1:04 2/5. The work was the first for the 5-year-old son of Archarcharch since his first graded stakes victory in the $1 million Shadwell Turf Mile (G1T) Oct. 6 at Keeneland

Ridden by Tyler Gaffalione for trainer Richard Baltas, Next Shares produced fractions of :12 4/5, :25 4/5, :40 2/5, :52 2/5, and 1:04 2/5.

"He really gets over the ground well, especially with moisture in it," said Gaffalione, who rode Next Shares for the first time in the Shadwell Turf Mile. "The plan is to work him again next Saturday or Sunday (before going to Churchill Downs for the Nov. 3 Breeders' Cup Mile, G1T)."

Gaffalione has had one mount in each of the past two Breeders' Cup World Championships, but the 24-year-old Florida native expects to have five or six this time around. They include recent Lukas Classic (G3) winner Mind Your Biscuits, who his targeting the $6 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) as one of his three possible options, and Liam the Charmer, a candidate for the $4 million Longines Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T).

Baltas, who has recorded both of his Keeneland stakes victories in 2018, has had eight previous Breeders' Cup starters.
