American Pharoah Lands Post 5 for Juvenile

Zayat Stables' American Pharoah, a dominant winner of two grade I stakes in his last two starts, drew post 5 versus 12 other 2-year-old males in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) at Santa Anita Park Nov. 1.

American Pharoah, who won the 1 1/16-mile FrontRunner Stakes wire to wire at Santa Anita Sept 27 and worked professionally the morning Oct. 26, appears to be well-positioned from his post. The Pioneerof the Nile   colt could prove tough to defeat should he repeat his last race and his previous victory in the seven-furlong Del Mar Futurity (gr. I) for trainer Bob Baffert.

Victor Espinosa, who rode American Pharoah in the FrontRunner, has the call.

Baffert said he was pleased with the post draw for American Pharoah.

WinStar Farm and Stonestreet Stables' Carpe Diem, two-for-two with a strong win in the 1 1/16-mile Breeders' Futurity (gr. I) at Keeneland Oct. 4, drew post 9 for trainer Todd Pletcher and John Velazquez. Carpe Diem (by Giant's Causeway  ), after winning his career debut on the lead in a sprint at Saratoga Race Course, rated just off the pace for the first half-mile in the Breeders' Futurity but took over with authority.

Pletcher also will saddle Let's Go Stable's Daredevil, who is two-for-two including a win in the Champagne Stakes (gr. I) at Belmont Park | BloodHorse.com Track Profile">Belmont Park. The chestnut colt drew post 12 and has shown good early foot in his two starts. Javier Castellano, who rode the More Than Ready   colt in the Champagne, will ride again in the Juvenile.
