Angela Renee Inside for Juvenile Fillies

Several 2-year-old fillies with strong last-out efforts in graded stakes figure to grab the most attention in a field of 13 entered for the $2 million 14 Hands Winery Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) at Santa Anita Park Nov. 1.

Siena Farm's Angela Renee, a solid off-the-pace winner of the Chandelier Stakes (gr. I) at Santa Anita Sept. 27, drew post 2 in the 1 1/16-mile race as the 3-1 morning-line choice. The projected speed types will start to her outside.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Angela Renee (by Bernardini  ) won the Chandelier at the Juvenile Fillies distance. She will be ridden by John Velazquez, who was aboard for her maiden win at Saratoga Race Course.

"Obviously we had hoped to draw more in the middle of the field, but there's nothing we can do about it," Pletcher said. "We're going to do the best we can with what we've got."

The other grade I winner, Jay Em Ess Stable's By the Moon, who captured the Frizette Stakes at Belmont Park Oct. 4, drew post 12, while GSN Racing's Cristina's Journey, undefeated in two starts and winner of the Pocahontas Stakes (gr. II) at Churchill Downs Sept. 6, drew post 5.

The Michele Nevin-trained By the Moon (by Indian Charlie) sat just off a quick pace in the one-turn-mile Frizette and pulled away in the stretch to defeat Wonder Gal and Feathered, the second- and third-place finishers who will race in the Juvenile Fillies. Based on past performances, it appears By the Moon should be able to secure good position early despite the outside post.

Cristina's Journey (by Any Given Saturday  ) won both of her starts gate to wire for trainer Dale Romans and jockey Miguel Mena, who has a return call. The Pocahontas was a 1 1/16-mile event, and Cristina's Journey had no problem negotiating her first trip around two turns.
