Hofburg Seeks First Graded Win in Fayette Stakes

Juddmonte Farms' Hofburg and West Coast invader Prime Attraction headline a field of seven entered for the $200,000 Hagyard Fayette Stakes (G2) Oct. 27, the closing-day feature of Keeneland's 17-day Fall Meet.

Trained by Bill Mott, Hofburg has been a buzz horse since finishing second in the March 31 Xpressbet Florida Derby (G1) one start after breaking his maiden. The son of Tapit  had a troubled run while finishing seventh in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) and returned to finish third behind Triple Crown winner Justify  in the Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G1).

Following a win in the July 27 Curlin Stakes, Hofburg was being pointed to the Runhappy Travers Stakes (G1) but had to miss the Mid-Summer Derby after spiking a fever. In his most recent start, the late-running chestnut colt finished fourth to winner McKinzie in the Sept. 22 Pennsylvania Derby (G1).

Jose Ortiz will have the mount on Hofburg, who is the lone 3-year-old in Saturday's 1 1/8-mile race.

DP Racing's grade 1-placed Prime Attraction, who arrived at Keeneland this week from his Southern California base, chased likely Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) favorite Accelerate  in his past two starts in the $1 Million TVG Pacific Classic Stakes (G1) and Awesome Again (G1) stakes.

Trained by James Cassidy, Prime Attraction is graded stakes-placed on turf and dirt in 2018, with his most recent victory coming in November's Native Diver Stakes (G3) at Del Mar going 1 1/8 miles.

Brad Cox trainee Leofric captured the West Virginia Governor's Stakes (G3) Aug. 4 and enters the Fayette off a third-place finish in the Sept. 1 Woodward Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G1).
