Grade 1 stakes winner Poseidon's Warrior , sire of grade 1-winning juvenile Firenze Fire, has joined the stallion roster at John Phillips' Darby Dan Farm in Lexington to stand the upcoming breeding season after relocating from Pleasant Acres Farm in Ocala, Fla., it was announced Oct. 21.
A son of Speightstown bred on the same cross as Smart Strike, Poseidon's Warrior was bred in Maryland by Dark Hollow Farm and William P. Beatson out of the multiple stakes-producing Smarten mare Poised to Pounce. He will be offered on Darby Dan Farm's Share the Upside Program and will stand the 2019 breeding season for $6,500 stands and nurses.
"There's a lot to like about Poseidon's Warrior, and we are excited to add him to our roster," said Ryan Norton, stallion director at Darby Dan Farm. "He has a stallion's pedigree and hails from a strong female family. He was exceptionally fast, running six triple-digit Beyer Speed Figures. He is a proven grade 1 winner and is already making a name for himself as a sire. He represents a great opportunity for breeders through our Share the Upside program, and we invite people to come out and see him. We are confident breeders are really going to like him."
Winner of the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Haindicap (G1) at 4, Poseidon's Warrior won seven races—five of them stakes—from 21 starts by a combined 31 lengths. In addition to winning the Vanderbilt, he also captured the NATC Futurity at Monmouth Park by seven lengths at 2, the East Hanover Stakes, New Castle Stakes, and Le Bagoter Stakes at 3, and finished third in the Fabulous Strike Handicap at 4 en route to career earnings of $701,147.
