Gabriel Saez Sidelined With Arm Fracture

Jockey Gabriel Saez is expected to be sidelined for one month with an arm fracture after being unseated by his mount during the seventh race at Delaware Park Sept. 25.



"It's a hairline fracture right near the elbow," said Cory Moran, agent for the 25-year-old Panamanian-born jockey. "We're told it will be a month. He'll rest between now and then and resume riding at Gulfstream Park."



At Delaware on Wednesday, Saez was on the lead aboard To Dare Is to Do during a maiden special weight turf event. The 3-year-old  son of Forestry   veered in sharply at the top of the stretch, striking the inner rail and unseating the rider.



Saez, spending his first full season at Monmouth Park, booted home 54 winners through last Sunday's card and was third in the overall jockey standings. For the year, Saez has 64 victories from 482 mounts. His career mark in North America starting in 2006 stands at 699 wins from 4,763 starts, with 693 seconds and 701 thirds and total purse earnings of more than $24.4 million.



Highlights include victories aboard Proud Spell in the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) and Alabama Stakes (gr. I) in 2008, and runner-up finishes in the 2007 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) with Proud Spell and in the 2008 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) on the filly Eight Belles. He also guided Summer Soiree to victory in the 2011 Del Mar Oaks (gr. IT) and was aboard 2011 Horse of the Year Havre de Grace to win that year's Obeah Stakes (gr. III).
