Multiple stakes winner
Miss Mischief is looking to extend a three-race winning streak and hopefully pick up her first graded stakes win in the Nov. 1 $150,000
Maple Leaf Stakes (Can-III) at Woodbine Racecourse.
The 4-year-old daughter of Spendthrift Farm's stallion
Into Mischief is on a roll that began Aug. 5 in an allowance/optional claiming race she won by 5 1/2 lengths at
Presque Isle Downs. She followed that with a 6 3/4-length win in a $36,000 allowance race and a 1 3/4-length victory Sept. 25 in the $100,000 H.B.P.A. Stakes, both races at Presque Isle.
Miss Mischief is owned by Dianne Manning. The filly, bred in Kentucky by Allen Poindexter, was bought as a yearling for $125,000 out of the 2011 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July sale by agent Debbie Easter out of the Gainesway consignment. She is trained by Dale Capuano, who started training the filly when she began her streak.
The Maple Leaf will be her first try at 1 1/4 miles. Her dam, Kid Majic, is stakes-placed in sprints but Into Mischief has shown the ability to get two-turn horses such as
Vicar's in Trouble and
Vyjack.
Strut the Course, a homebred for John Unger, will offer plenty of competition. The 4-year-old filly by
Strut the Stage —Bold Course, by Trajectory, has her own streak going with back-to-back victories at Woodbine. Her most recent win came in the Sept. 28 Classy 'n Smart Stakes, which she won by 7 1/2 lengths. Strut the Course is trained by Barbara Minshall and has won three races at 1 1/16 miles this year.
The field of 10 also includes William Gierkink's homebred
Moonlit Beauty, an 8-year-old daughter of
Perigee Moon and the wire-to-wire of last year's Maple Leaf. She has won only once since that race, in a $74,500 allowance race at Woodbine. Moonlit Beauty finished fourth in the Classy 'n Smart.
