Woodford Racing's Jefferson Cup Stakes winner Hot Springs tops a competitive field of seven 3-year-olds entered in the $100,000 Commonwealth Turf Stakes (G3T) Nov. 10 at Churchill Downs.
The Commonwealth, run at 1 1/16 miles on the Matt Winn Turf Course, is carded as Race 10 with a post time of 5:36 p.m.
Hot Springs, a Kentucky-bred son of Uncle Mo , owns a 3-for-3 mark over the Churchill course. He broke his maiden June 3 beneath the Twin Spires by 4 1/4 lengths and wheeled back to score a 1 1/2-length allowance win June 29.
After finishing second in the Kent Stakes (G3T) and fourth in the Saranac Stakes (G3T), Hot Springs returned to his preferred stomping ground and captured the Sept. 29 Jefferson Cup by a length.
Among Hot Spring's main Commonwealth Turf competitors is Ken and Sarah Ramsey's stakes winner Sniper Kitten for trainer Mike Maker. The son of Kitten's Joy has three wins through six starts, including his lone stakes victory in the one-mile Mystic Lake Derby June 23 at Canterbury Park.
Also entered in the Commonwealth Turf is the ultraconsistent March to the Arch for trainer Mark Casse and jockey Julien Leparoux. March to the Arch, who sports a record of 3-2-1 from nine starts, won Woodbine's Toronto Cup Stakes by 1 3/4 lengths in July. The gelded son of Arch was most recently fourth in the Oct. 6 Hill Prince Stakes (G2T) at Belmont Park.
