Mill Ridge Sales' Rio Carnival was the third-highest-priced mare during the Nov. 9 session of Keeneland November

Juddmonte Farms' internationally renowned breeding program continued its presence among the leading purchases following the Nov. 9 fifth session at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Mill Ridge Sales put Hip 1815, the 12-year-old Storm Cat mare Rio Carnival, through the ring and came away with the day's third-highest-priced broodmare. Sallusto & Albina Agents paid $270,000 for the graded stakes-producing mare out of group 1 winner Zenda, who is a half sister to group 1 winner and top European sire Oasis Dream. Rio Carnival is a half sister to four-time group 1 winner and English highweight Kingman (by Invincible Spirit) and group 3 winner Remote (Dansili).

"The Tapit  on the ground is really nice, and it was an opportunity to get into a great family with a great broodmare sire to boot," said Hanzly Albina, who bought the mare for Newtown Anner Stud. He said the mare, who is in foal to Twirling Candy , will stay in Kentucky.

Headley Bell, with Mill Ridge, said he thought the price was fair in a professional market.

"You never know how to value these kinds of horses. Juddmonte pedigrees are extraordinary. They're jewels and are not on the market very often, so a 12-year-old mare but a half to Kingman, and she has produced a good horse. I thought it was very fair," he said.

Mill Ridge topped the sale's third session, selling a $750,000 Juddmonte homebred named Miss Exclusive, a daughter of champion Intercontinental, who is among the five grade/group 1 winners produced by the royal blue Juddmonte mare Hasili. Agent Marette Farrell bought Miss Exclusive for Greg Goodman's Mt. Brilliant Farm.
