The second-highest-priced mare to sell Nov. 9 during the fifth session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale was bought by new Central Kentucky farm owner Susan Moulton.

Moulton went to $275,000 to acquire Hip 1727, a 6-year-old winning daughter of Awesome Again  named Microburst. The mare is a half sister to Champagne Stakes (G1) winner Complexity (by Maclean's Music ) and grade 1-placed, graded stakes winner Valadorna (Curlin ). Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, Microburst was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency.

"She looks a lot like a sister we own now," said Debbie Ward, referring to a winning Afleet Alex  daughter named Naylor. Ward is the manager of Moulton's new farm in Woodford County that she bought in May and named Safari North. The farm previously operated as Paul's Mill.

"(Moulton) is partial to this family. We thought she was a really pretty Awesome Again mare with a lot of quality," Ward said. "Being in foal to Maclean's Music was a big part of it as well."

Moulton is a native of San Antonio who has been involved in racing and pinhooking. Ward said Moulton owns five mares so far and is looking to acquire more to breed for both the commercial market and to race.

"We're doing a little bit of both. We will have to see how the foals develop and make those decisions as we go," she said. "We didn't expect to pay that much for (Microburst), but we are glad we got her."
