Summer Wind Equine's Chasing Yesterday brought her record to three wins from four starts in the $100,000 Desi Arnaz Stakes Nov. 12 at Del Mar.
The 2-year-old Tapit filly trained by Bob Baffert first made news as the half sister to Triple Crown winner American Pharoah . Bred by Summer Wind, the siblings are out of the Yankee Gentleman mare Littleprincessemma, who has also produced grade 1-placed American Cleopatra and group 3-placed St Patrick's Day. All five of the mare's foals to race are winners.
Coming off a score in the Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita Park, Chasing Yesterday only faced two other rivals Monday, after her stablemate and impressive maiden winner Der Lu scratched along with Andyoushallreceive.
Off at odds of 1-2, Chasing Yesterday let It'sjustanillusion and Boujie Girl take the lead as she bided her time in the seven-furlong test running two lengths behind. After a half-mile in splits of :21.81 and :43.98, Chasing Yesterday began to move up on the leaders. Coming around the turn they were three across and only heads apart.
Boujie Girl was the first to give way, dropping back only slightly as the other two battled on through the stretch. In the end, Chasing Yesterday scored by 1 1/2 lengths over It'sjustanillusion, with another 1 1/4 lengths back to Boujie Girl.
The final time over the fast track was 1:23.81.
