The Nov. 1 Breeders’ Cup World Championships card at Santa Anita Park enjoyed increased television viewership over last year’s numbers from the same venue.

NBC reported an average 2.6 million viewers tuned in to watch Bayern win the Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) from 8-9 p.m. ET, up 24% from 2013. Those viewers certainly needed to stay until the end of the telecast, as a stewards’ inquiry kept the final result in doubt until the end of the hour.

The NBC Sports Network televised all other Breeders’ Cup races leading up to the Classic from 3:30-8 p.m. and reported an average of 376,000 viewers, up 20% from a year ago.
