Racing at Hawthorne
Hawthorne Race Course canceled the last seven races on the eight-race card Nov. 30 because unsafe track conditions. The Illinois track has already cancelled races for Dec. 1.
Rising temperatures Friday began melting the underlying ice on the racetrack, which caused uneven footing for the horses. After consultation between track officials and the jockeys, it was decided that, in the interest of safety, the track would cancel all races until Dec. 6.
