America’s Best Racing and DerbyJackpot team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.
Each week, one of our crack handicappers - Jose Contreras, Dan Tordjman, Victoria Garofalo or Cory Moelis – will provide at least one “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a win bet.
The post also will include some combination of additional bets for the weekend.
For some posts, our handicappers will try to identify a longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet.
Our handicappers also will look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or occasionally try to spot a nice opportunity to bet a trifecta or superfecta.
Place your bets at DerbyJackpot. It's the easiest and most fun online horse betting site out there. Races open for betting about five minutes before post time. Place your bets and you can walk away with some extra cash in your pocket.

This Weekend’s Bets
Saturday
Best Bet (Win Bet/ Monkey Bet)
Del Mar, Race 2, 3:30 p.m. ET
#2 Grand Yodeler: This filly is dropping in class from stakes company into a claiming event and comes into this race off a brief freshening. Her debut win two starts ago on this track was a very good effort. She has enough speed to stay close to the leaders and her trainer does well with this move.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Del Mar, Race 4, 4:30 p.m. ET
#2 Baccelo: He was a Group 1 stakes winner in his native Brazil and will now be making his first start in California. His jockey knows him well and his trainer has been successful with imports like these plenty of times before. He lacks local experience but some of his workouts have been good.
#5 Setsuko: He has not been seen since January when finishing fifth as the favorite in field of seven. He used to be a top older horse a few years ago, and I find it encouraging that his Hall of Fame trainer still feels that he can fire big effort.
#6 Snaps: This gelding has two wins and two second-place finishes since arriving in the barn of Richard Mandella. He’s shown versatility by winning on the lead and closing from the back of the pack. Talented runner looks to be getting better.
Sunday
Best Bet (Win Bet/ Monkey Bet)
Del Mar, Race 5, 5 p.m. ET
#1 Blondy’s Reward: She finished an encouraging third in her debut against a similar group about a month ago at Santa Anita when beaten by 3 1/4 lengths. Although she lacks the racing experience that some of these have, I think she has plenty of upside while only making her second lifetime start. She should be a solid price on the tote board, too.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Del Mar, Race 7, 6 p.m. ET
#4 Chilada: Owns a win on this turf course and arrives in sharp form after a win at Santa Anita, where she sat a good trip behind the leaders. I envision a similar type of scenario today against this group.
#7 Loan Savant: Seems to go through cycles of where she runs two or three good efforts and then two or three disappointing efforts. Her last two races have been solid, and there is no reason to think she won’t fire another good run. Her closing style needs a solid pace up front.
#9 Ameliatheaviator: This filly arrives from Arlington Park after finishing sixth in a stakes race that looked too tough for her. Her trainer, Kristin Mulhall, had a solid summer season, and she tends to do well with first-time acquisitions. Her best efforts seem to be when she closes from the back of the pack.
