Shades of Night will join Stonewall's Prestige Stallions for the 2019 breeding season at a fee of $1,000 live foal guaranteed, the farm announced Dec. 6.

The 4-year-old son of General Quarters is from the powerful Pulpit sire line. A millionaire grade 1 winner, General Quarters is also the sire of 2019 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) hopeful Signalman, winner of Churchill Downs' Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2). The 2-year-old colt was third in the Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) at Churchill and second in the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1) at Keeneland.

Bred by The Big Mares and Edward Seltzer in Kentucky, Shades of Night is out of the Giant's Causeway mare Whitepark Bay. The stallion's dam is out of a half sister to grade 3 winner Stradivinsky; stakes-placed, stakes producer Luricon; and stakes-placed Eltish Emerald.

Shades of Night raced exclusively in New York and Florida. In his first race on turf at Aqueduct Racetrack, he faced multiple grade 1 winner Yoshida, who was making his career debut. Yoshida finished second that day, with eventual graded stakes-placed Adonis Creed in third, while Shades of Night closed well for fifth.

Shades of Night is available for inspection at the farm near Ocala, Fla., that stood 11 stallions this year. In 2019, it will be headed by Big Drama with a fee of $5,000 and Uncle Vinny at $3,000.
