Long On Value , a grade 1 winner and millionaire, will stand at Helen and Joe Barbazon's Pleasant Acres Stallions in Morriston, Fla., for the 2019 breeding season for a $2,500 fee, the farm announced Dec. 6.
"Helen and I are excited to have the millionaire Long On Value join our roster here at Pleasant Acres Stallions," said Joe Barbazon, owner of the farm. "He brings stamina and resilience on dirt or turf—going short or long. Breeders should find a lot to like about Long On Value."
Long On Value won eight stakes, including the $250,000 Highlander Stakes (G1T) at Woodbine in his last start this year, the $200,000 Twilight Derby (G2T) at Santa Anita Park as a 3-year-old, and the $150,000 Canadian Turf Stakes (G3T) at Gulfstream Park at 4. The son of Value Plus also fell a nose short in the $1 million Al Quoz Sprint Sponsored By Azizi Developments (G1) in Dubai last year at 6, and he was third in the Ricoh Woodbine Mile Stakes (G1T) and Maker's 46 Mile Stakes (G1T) at Keeneland.
Campaigning at 15 tracks in four countries, Long On Value won on dirt and turf at distances from 5 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/8 miles and earned more than $1.13 million. In a racing career that spanned six seasons under four trainers—including Hall of Fame conditioner Bill Mott and, most recently, Brad Cox—Long On Value retired in October with a record of 9-5-5 from 32 starts, with 18 graded stakes starts.
At 2, Long On Value won his first three starts, which included the Jamestown Stakes at 5 1/2 furlongs on firm turf and the Strike Your Colors Stakes at the same distance on dirt. He finished his career with a 2-for-2 season in 2018 as a 7-year-old.
Originally purchased as a yearling at the Fasig-Tipton Eastern Fall Yearlings Sale by Patrick Morell as agent for Richard Hessee for $3,000, Long On Value was later purchased by George Kerr and Wachtel Stables, for whom he ran through his 6-year-old season with partner Gary Barber. He was sold at the 2017 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale and was sent to Cox's barn, where he finished his racing career for Madaket Stables, Ten Strike Racing, and Steve Laymon.
After Long On Value's retirement from the track, Morell brokered the deal for Kerr to buy the horse back as a stallion prospect.
Bred by Snow Lantern Thoroughbreds in Virginia, Long On Value is out of Long Message (by Orientate).
Long On Value will join stallions Amira's Prince , As de Trebol , Beau Choix , Bucchero , Handsome Mike , Learn, Neolithic , Ride On Curlin , and Treasure Beach at the 220-acre farm located just northwest of Ocala.
