Moonlit Promise, a leading contender for champion sprint female in Canada, has been retired from racing and will be bred to Quality Road  in 2019, Hill 'n' Dale Farms announced Nov. 29.

Campaigned by Hill 'n' Dale Equine Holdings and Windsor Boys Racing, the Hill 'n' Dale homebred daughter of Malibu Moon  was a Sovereign Award finalist last year. She had an 8-3-2 record from 18 starts, with earnings of $507,462.

Trained by Josie Carroll, Moonlit Promise won the Sweet Briar Too Stakes, Ontario Fashion Stakes (G3), and Bessarabian Stakes (G2) in 2017, and she returned this season to repeat in the Sweet Briar Too and Bessarabian. She is out of the grade 3-winning Smart Strike mare Smart Surprise, who also won the Bessarabian for Hill 'n' Dale president John Sikura and Carroll, and hails from the family of leading sires A.P. Indy and Summer Squall.

"It is extremely gratifying to raise and race a mare of the caliber of Moonlit Promise," said Sikura. "She will be an invaluable addition to our broodmare band. Trainer Josie Carroll and her staff did a great job keeping her in top form for three seasons of racing. We are committed to giving her every opportunity breeding to Quality Road, who has enjoyed a phenomenal year."
