Description:

The Senator Ken Maddy Stakes, taken off the turf and run on the main track at Santa Anita Park Nov. 1, will not have its original grade III designation reinstated, according to the American Graded Stakes Committee.

Originally scheduled at 6 1/2 furlongs over the downhill turf course, the race won by Amaranth was moved to the main track to protect the turf course for the Nov. 1 Breeders' Cup World Championship races after overnight rains fell Oct. 31.

In accord with AGSC policy, the race was automatically downgraded to Listed status and was conducted as a Listed stakes race. After reviewing the off-the-turf renewal, the AGSC determined that the original grade III status will not be reinstated for this renewal.

"The Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, renewal of the Senator Ken Maddy Stakes, originally scheduled as a grade III event over the Santa Anita Park turf course but conducted as a Listed race over the main track, should be recorded as a Listed race," the AGSC said. "The winner of the race is therefore credited with a Listed win, and the second- and third-place finishers are credited with Listed placings."
