3,000 Wins for Trainer Michael Ferraro

Trainer Michael S. Ferraro reached a career milestone of 3,000 wins when Sweet Sweet Afleet won the eighth race Nov. 12 at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack.



A 3-year-old New York-bred daughter of Northern Afleet   owned by Diamond in the Sky Racing Stable, Sweet Sweet Afleet easily won the six-furlong allowance test by 2 3/4 lengths as the 1-10 favorite under jockey David Lopez.



Ferraro began his career at Fort Erie in 1971 and since that time has been represented by the earners of more than $23.7 million, with 12,166 starters through Nov. 12.



His best runner to date has been R. J. Le Cesse's homebred Fio Rito, who became the first New York-bred to win a grade I race when he upset Rokeby Stable's Winter's Tale in the 1981 Whitney Handicap at Saratoga Race Course | BloodHorse.com Track Profile">Saratoga Race Course. Fio Rito, who won 28 of 50 races and earned $584,142, was buried in the infield at Finger Lakes after he died in 1996 at age 21.

With 2,869 of his winners coming at Finger Lakes, Ferraro has won 18 training titles at the in Farmington, N.Y., track.
