Santa Anita Renames Sir Beaufort Stakes

Santa Anita Park has announced the Sir Beaufort Stakes will be run as the grade II Mathis Brothers Mile on opening day of the winter meet Dec. 26.
The turf event for 3-year-olds at one mile will be contested for the 15th time in 2014.
The $200,000 Mathis Brothers Mile will serve as the centerpiece of a multi-year agreement between Santa Anita and Mathis Brothers Furniture, one of the nation's largest and most successful furniture retailers.
Mathis Brothers will also offer opening day fans several thousand dollars worth of prizes and giveaways throughout the day as part of the opening-day celebration.
