TRF Gets Donation From WV Breeders Classics

Description:
The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation for the fifth consecutive year has received a $25,000 donation from the West Virginia Breeders Classics, held Oct. 18 at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races

The nine-race card featured $1.28 million in purses for state-breds, and the highlight was the $450,000 West Virginia Breeders Classic, which now stands as the richest state-bred race in the country.

"The West Virginia Breeders Classics is grateful for the outstanding job done by the TRF in its care of our retired racehorses," said Carol Holden, president of the West Virginia Breeders Classics. "We also applaud its leadership as the very first national organization to recognize and take action in the effort to give these horses a well deserved home."

The Classic was won by Mark Russell's 8-year-old Russell Road, who won the 1 1/8-mile race for the third time for trainer James W. Casey and Jose Montano.
