WinStar Farm's Commissioner, runner-up to Tonalist in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I), is back in training in South Florida with Todd Pletcher after undergoing surgery to have a small chip removed from his left front ankle.
Commissioner has been on the sidlelines since getting beat by a head in the third jewel of the Triple Crown.
The son of A.P. Indy—Flaming Heart, by Touch Gold, has been back in training for 30 to 40 days, according to Elliott Walden, WinStar president, CEO, and racing manager.
"Everything is going great and he looks to be approximately 60 days from a race," Walden said. "We'd like to go to the Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) with him, but have to figure out how to do that."
Commissioner, who was also bred by WinStar, has won two of his eight career starts with three seconds and a third for earnings of $515,767. In addition to the Belmont Stakes, he was second in the Peter Pan Stakes (gr. II) and third in the Sunland Derby (gr. III).
The colt had been sent to WinStar for freshening following the Belmont, but was found to have some filling in his left ankle. X-rays revealed a small lateral P1 chip that was removed by Dr. Larry Bramlage at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital near Lexington.
