Daring Kathy One to Catch in My Charmer

Description:

Daring Kathy, winner of four of her six career starts on turf, will be tough to catch as she attempts to outrun nine opponents in the $100,000 My Charmer Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Gulfstream Park West Nov. 22.

The daughter of Wildcat Heir  , trained by David Fawkes, is best when is in front, and there doesn't appear to be anyone who can run with her early in the 1 1/8-mile test at the former Calder Race Course.

A winner of three stakes on the grass, her best race may have been a third-place finish in the grade II Lake George Stakes at Saratoga Race Course, in which she led to the eighth pole before giving way late, but was only beaten by 1 1/4 lengths.

In the the My Charmer, she will attempt to stretch her speed again after easily winning a listed one-mile stakes at Gulfstream West by 3 1/4 lengths in her last start. She breaks from post 5 with Abdiel Jaen aboard.

The main competition looks to come from Lilbourne Eliza and Angelica Zapata, the one-two finishers of the Wasted Tears Stakes at Gulfstream Park in their last start.

Angelica Zapata has been a gem of consistency, winning 11 of her 30 career starts, with six seconds and four thirds. The 6-year-old daughter of Sharp Humor was second, beaten a half-length, in last year's My Charmer. In addition to winning several overnight stakes, she finished a close third behind Naples Bay in the Marshua's River Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Gulfstream.

Lilbourne Eliza appears to be rounding into form for trainer Marty Wolfson, who took over her training from Jim Cassidy three races back. He removed the filly's blinkers in the Wasted Tears, which she won by a half length.

Christophe Clement has a shot with the former English-trained filly Cushion, who is coming off a solid fourth-place finish in the grade III Athenia Stakes at Belmont Park.

Also in with a chance is the hard-knocking Triple Arch, who has placed in grade II and grade III company, but has been inconsistent throughout her career.

Graham Motion trains the former English-trained Magic of Reality, who has made one start for her current trainer in the U.S., finishing a fast-closing third in an allowance race at Keeneland.

Two fillies, Oasis at Midnight and U. S. S. O'Brien, have been entered for main track only.
