Bombshell sails clear in the Forever Together Stakes at Aqueduct

Team Valor International's Bombshell will look to expand a two-race win streak from last year in the $150,000 Marshua's River Stakes (G3T) Jan. 12 at Gulfstream Park.

The 1 1/16-mile turf race features a field of eight fillies and mares 4 and older, most of whom are stakes winners.

Bombshell comes into the contest off a 4 1/4-length score in the Nov. 23 Forever Together Stakes going one mile on the dirt at Aqueduct Racetrack. One start prior, the 6-year-old daughter of Bellamy Road  took a Sept. 3 optional-claiming allowance at Delaware Park going 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf.

Trained by Arnaud Delacour, Bombshell's only graded stakes effort came in the 2017 Beldame Stakes (G1), in which she finished sixth while in the care of trainer Jimmy Jerkens.

Competition will come from the 3-1 morning-line favorite La Signare, a lightly raced Brian Lynch trainee who has not raced since July 7, when she finished last of 10 in the Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes (G1T).

The French-bred daughter of Siyouni broke her maiden in France in her second start as a 2-year-old before she made her North American debut at 3 in April. She finished second in that start at Keeneland and one start later won the June 7 Wonder Again Stakes (G3T). La Signare is the only graded stakes winner in the Marshua's River field.

Todd Pletcher trainee Bellavais enters off a fourth-place finish in Gulfstream's My Charmer Stakes (G3T) last month and has the advantage of having previously raced over the turf course.

The 5-year-old Tapit  mare owned by Bortolazzo Stable won her only other start in 2018, an Oct. 24 optional-claiming allowance after an 11-month layoff. Bellavais raced at Gulfstream one other time when she won the 2017 Ginger Brew Stakes, also on the turf.

Maryland-bred Monte Crista brings a record of four wins from seven starts last year. The Cape Blanco filly broke her maiden in late April and made it three wins in a row before she finished third in the TaWee Stakes at Indiana Grand. She won the Aug. 23 Riskaverse Stakes at Saratoga Race Course but finished the year with a ninth in the Pebbles Stakes at Belmont Park.

Fellow Maryland-bred I'm Betty G will start for trainer Mike Maker. The 5-year-old daughter of Into Mischief  has won three stakes but has yet to break through at the graded level after five tries.
