Torrid Martin Resumes Golden Gate Hot Streak

Description:

With the start of a new week of racing Nov. 20, trainer John F. Martin continues to win races at a remarkable rate at the Golden Gate Fields fall meeting.

Martin entered the Thursday program with a winning percentage of 43.7, scored with two of his three starters, and finished the afternoon with a success rate of 45.7%.

He won third race with 12-1 outsider Avanti Bello ($26.40) and then came right back to saddle the exacta in the fourth race as his 4-year-old filly Lucky to Stay Home ($8.40) defeated his 5-year-old mare Unique Suances by 2 1/4 lengths.

Martin has tallied with 16 of his 35 starters at the fall meeting and is second in the trainer standings behind perennial champion Jerry Hollendorfer, who has amassed 25 victories from 86 starters for a 29% strike rate.

Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Friday, Nov. 21, and those who want to get on the Martin bandwagon should note that he runs two horses: Totally Worth It (9-2 on the morning line) in the second race and Bertrane (7-2) in the seventh. Post time is 12:45 p.m. PST.
