America’s Best Racing and DerbyJackpot team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.
Each week, one of our crack handicappers - Jose Contreras, Dan Tordjman, Victoria Garofalo or Cory Moelis – will provide at least one “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a win bet.
The post also will include some combination of additional bets for the weekend.
For some posts, our handicappers will try to identify a longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet.
Our handicappers also will look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or occasionally try to spot a nice opportunity to bet a trifecta or superfecta.
Place your bets at DerbyJackpot. It's the easiest and most fun online horse betting site out there. Races open for betting about five minutes before post time. Place your bets and you can walk away with some extra cash in your pocket.

This Weekend’s Bets
Saturday
While the Kentucky Derby may seem far away, it really isn’t. Both races I’ve chosen for my Saturday bets are worth 10-4-2-1 points to the top finishers on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks and Derby, respectively.
Delta Downs, Race 6, Delta Downs Princess Stakes, Post Time: 4:43 ET
Best Bet (Win Bet/Monkey Bet)
#7 Vivian Da Bling: She cruised to win by 8 lengths in her last race — the $100,000 My Trusty Cat Stakes, a local prep race for this race. She came in fourth in the Grade 2 Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga Race Course this summer behind 2014 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies runners Wonder Gal and Angela Renee, who ran 3rd and 10th, respectively, behind Delta Princess morning-line favorite Take Charge Brandi. I think Take Charge Brandi is beatable here.
Delta Downs, Race 7, Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes, Post Time: 5:15 ET
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
#1 Prime Engine: At 8-1 morning line, he is lightly raced with two easy wins, including one at this distance of 1 1/16 miles. Hall of Fame rider and all-time winningest jockey Russell Baze takes the mount and is winning at 32% this year. Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer recently took over Prime Engine’s training. He looks to be the horse to beat for this $1-million race.
#10 Ocho Ocho Ocho: He’s 2 for 2 – both impressive speed figures — and stretching out for the first time in the Delta Downs Jackpot. Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith isn’t making the trip for nothing – he’s selective about his mounts. My biggest concern for him is the outside post, but I expect him to be there at the top of the stretch to make this exacta hit.
Churchill Downs, Race 9, Cardinal Handicap, Post Time 4:36 ET
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
#5 Angegreen: While winless in her last 12 starts, she ran an impressive, fast-closing third to White Rose in her last race in the Kentucky Downs Ladies Marathon Stakes. Not to mention, she was just switched to trainer Wayne Catalano, who has had his best year ever at Churchill Downs, and she’s one of his three horses entered into this race.
#14 Royal Fury: Royal Fury has had a strong second half of 2014 with her second-place finish in the Grade 3 Ontario Matron Stakes to La Tia and her second-place finish in the Grade 2 Canadian Stakes, both at Woodbine. Under the direction of Julien Leparoux, winning rider of the last three graded stakes at Churchill Downs, she looks good enough to be there at the end of the 1 1/8 miles.
Sunday
Del Mar, Race 8, Cary Grant Stakes, Post Time 7 p.m. ET
Best Bet (Win Bet/Monkey Bet)
#4 Red Outlaw: Red Outlaw will try to extend his unbeaten streak to seven, with two of his victories coming this summer at Del Mar and the last four of which were all stakes. Jockey Edwin Maldonado has been aboard for the last three. Red Outlaw is a bit tricky because he’s run and won at distances from 5 furlongs to a mile and on both synthetic and turf surfaces. Hopefully, this is another great fit for him; it looks like it should be.
