D J Stable and Cash is King's Jaywalk, the frontrunner to earn an Eclipse Award as champion 2-year-old filly of 2018, returned to the work tab Jan. 11 to begin preparations for her sophomore campaign.

Trainer John Servis was on hand at Palm Meadows, Gulfstream Park's satellite training facility in Palm Beach County, to see Jaywalk breeze four furlongs in :50 4/5 over the main track.

Servis said he caught the gray or roan daughter of Cross Traffic  in splits of :13 3/5, :26 1/5, and :38 3/5, and galloped out to five furlongs in 1:03.

"She went a nice, easy half. It was perfect," Servis said. "She galloped out super, so she didn't lose much. Everything went very good."

It was the first work for Jaywalk since her gate-to-wire 5 1/2-length triumph in the 1 1/16-mile Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) Nov. 2, her second straight grade 1 victory and fourth consecutive win overall.

Joining Jaywalk as Eclipse finalists are Bellafina, also a two-time grade 1 winner who ran fourth in the Juvenile Fillies, and Newspaperofrecord, who went three-for-three in 2018, capped by a victory in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T).

"We're very excited about it," Servis said of the Jan. 24 Eclipse Awards at Gulfstream. "I don't know how much else she needed to do. She won at (four) at different racetracks, all at different distances, and she won two grade 1s. She had a pretty damn good year."

Servis is targeting the $200,000 Davona Dale (G2) for 3-year-old fillies going one mile March 2 at Gulfstream as Jaywalk's 2019 debut.

"The way she galloped out today, I'd say we're right on schedule," he said. "She acts the same and looks the same. She maybe got a little bit taller, but other than that she hasn't changed much at all, to be honest with you. She put on a little bit of weight, which is good."
