Fasig-Tipton has named trainer Mike Machowsky as the company's full-time California representative, effective mid-February.
Machowsky, who began training in 1989, will no longer operate his public stable as he begins his new role, which will principally consist of promoting Fasig-Tipton's auctions commencing this year at Santa Anita Park.
"As we organize our California division, we are pleased to have an individual of Mike's experience and expertise to represent us year-round on the West Coast," said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning. "Mike has worked in the California Thoroughbred industry his entire life, including nearly 30 years as a grade 1-winning trainer. His knowledge of California's owners, trainers, and breeders should prove valuable as we begin to put together our auctions at Santa Anita."
Fasig-Tipton will conduct two auctions in Santa Anita's historic walking ring in 2019—the June 5 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale and the Sept. 25 Fall Yearling Sale. In addition to recruiting buyers and sellers for those events, Machowsky will promote overall awareness of the Fasig-Tipton brand, and serve as a point of contact for any general inquiries from California connections regarding Fasig-Tipton's nationwide auction schedule.
"I am very excited to be representing Fasig-Tipton in California, and look forward to working with the state's breeders, owners, and trainers to conduct first-class auctions at Santa Anita Park," Machowsky said. "I want to extend my sincerest appreciation to all the owners, staff, and many others who have supported me throughout my training career."
Machowsky, who saddled 582 winners from 3,775 starters, counts Southern Image, winner of three grade 1 stakes—the Malibu Stakes, Pimlico Special, and Santa Anita Handicap—as his most accomplished runner. He also trained graded stakes winners Big Kick and Caracortado, among others.
